| Where 'The Guiness Book of World Records' comes from:
On 4 May 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver (who was director of the Guiness Brewery) went on a shooting party where he got into an argument about the fastest bird for hunting. Beaver then realized that there is no reference book with which he could check this. Then he came up with the idea for a book containing the world records. His idea became reality when he turned to the twins Norris and Ross McWhirter who had been running a fact-finding company in London. The brothers were commissioned to compile what later became "The Guinness Book of Records" in August 1954.
